May 23, 2019 Update

This Week’s update on Mark Boyer from Dallas on Thursday, May 23:
“Mark has been at Swedish Hospitals Cherry Hill Campus Acute Therapy 2 weeks already.  His recovery seems to be improving more quickly (my words, not his).  They started a kind of shock therapy, where they attach electrodes similar to an EKG to specific muscles and assist them in “firing” or responding to the brain’s direction to function.  As a result, both his right arm and leg are gaining function more quickly.  He has walked in therapy sessions (with a walker) a total of about 50 feet a couple of times this week.  He is able to get in and out of bed with assistance and is starting to talk more clearly.  He has been cleared to a less cautious diet — he was served chicken breast yesterday and the kitchen mistakenly sent it on the bone, but he had no problem cleaning it to the bone.  Thanks again to all who are praying for his recovery and are expressing your love for him and for us as we are trying to be available to encourage and assist him.”   It was great to have Dallas & Nancy with on Sunday for Sunday School and the Worship service for the first time since Mark’s stroke !!
It was good to have Jerry & Jo Cudney with us on Sunday.  Jo’s radiation treatments are completed — she has lost all sense of taste but the doctors say it should come back within 6 months.  Please pray for strength and healing for her.
Dick and Donna Duryee have arrived in Spain for their visit with Chris, Rose, Susanna & Austin !!
News from Chuka Momah:  He will have a special someone with him on Sunday — his wife Tamara !!  They were married in March 2017 and she has been waiting for her spouse visa to be able to come to the U.S.  Please greet her and make her feel welcome.
Work on the new Men’s Restroom continues — they are waiting on the permit to come through but continuing to do other work on the project.  Please pray for a quick OK on the permit.
MAILBOXES:  There are still items in the office that were taken out of the mailboxes — please ask for them.  If you have something that you would normally have put in someone’s mailbox, please hand deliver it.  We are still planning what to do about mailboxes.
Dawn Black will be leaving EBF at the end of the school year as she and Jim retire in Sequim.  We want to honor her with aGoing Away Breakfast at 9:30 am on June 9 — this is a church-wide event (come whether you normally attend the 9:30 am hour or not).  We want her to know how much we love her and will miss her.  Please sign up with how many from your family will be attending on your bulletin registration slip on Sunday or respond to this email.
“Opportunities to serve” because of Dawn’s leaving (please see Sue Baxter to meet the need):
1) Greeter (every 5-6 weeks at 9:10 am for S.S. and 10:30 am for church)
2) Beverage Center worker (about once a month after the service)
3) Transportation for Brandon to Factoria after church (one person or family to do each Sunday — or two people or families to share the need)
We get together each Sunday evening at 5:00 pm for our Share & Prayer time.  We meet to pray for one another, our OIKOS, our missionaries, etc.  All are welcome – kids are included in the prayer time.
1) Camp Gilead will be having a 5K run to benefit Camper Scholarships at 9:00 am.  Register at  A pancake breakfast will follow the race.
2) Memorial Day Service at Camp Gilead at 11:00 am.  Special speaker: Neal Gardenhire
3) Bring your family, a picnic lunch, and stay the day !
Update from Debbie McBee: Bonnie and I have traveled over 1,350 miles and seen God’s beauty everywhere and see his hand of protection as we have traveled through a hailstorm, snowstorm and a thunderstorm.  God has given us beautiful cold skies as we toured Arches, Bryce and Zion National Parks.  Today we go into the Grand Canyon.  We still like each other and give glory to God together.  We love and miss you.
Update from Debbie McBee on Baby Malachi (who we prayed for several months ago when he had his open heart surgery): He just had an appointment with the cardiologist and MALACHI’S HEART IS HEALED!  Praise God no more surgery and they don’t even have a follow up for 6 months.
Update from David & Lisa Chapman: Noel graduated from Boston University School of Law on Sunday.  We are traveling from Boston to Oklahoma City in a Budget truck so we are missing all the excitement the weather brings to Oklahoma.  We have managed to miss those storms that are happening around our travels and pray God continues to protect.  Noel flew into OKC on Tuesday the one unstormy day.  She has connected with the neighbor who has a shelter just in case. The weather can do anything but our area seems to be in the band that tornados go around.  As always, we appreciate your love and prayers, Lisa & David
On Sunday, Pastor Robin will be leading the Worship team and continuing his sermon series in Acts.  When you arrive, you will be greeted by Doug & Sally Hoy.  Gretchen & Tom Houck will be at the Beverage Center after church serving Italian sodas.  Bob Baxter & Mike Van Eaton will be praying for the EBF Family in the Prayer Room.  Neal Gardenhire, Mark Kieras, Frank Kempf and Ed Borbon are the May ushering team.
